“Facts Matter, Science Matters, Earth Matters”
One sometimes finds slogans like this on car bumpers. The statement’s intended meaning must be beyond the surface. Perhaps leaving off the list “Black Lives Matter” is telling? No; that’s an especially uncharitable and gratuitous interpretation. What then?
Maybe the sloganeer imagines a foolish and deplorable group of people to whom facts, science, and earth mean nothing, while another group of diligent and conscientious people care deeply for facts, science, and the earth. This take seems more promising than our first attempt.
These factually and scientifically minded people might even be the saviors of planet earth! On this interpretation we have sinners and saints; only the latter possess the way leading to salvation–science as the true religion, scientism and technocracy.
