Innocent Until Proven Guilty
Creating a welcoming environment for sexual assault victims to accuse their assailants requires debunking false claims of assault (these phony claims, crying wolf, deafens the public ear to legitimate cries). With almost 2% of priests, and over 9% of public school employees (whose records are not publicly scrutinized) abusing children, and given many women and … Continue reading Innocent Until Proven Guilty
This comment, inspired by Church Militant’s “The Vortex”
While my wife and I are spiritually cared for beyond our merit or dreams, in our Grand Rapids parish and under our holy bishop, I'm outraged at much (most?) of the Catholic Church hierarchy. Polite silence is no longer an option. We are in intense spiritual warfare for the Church, our country, our families, our … Continue reading This comment, inspired by Church Militant’s “The Vortex”
Considerations in Purchasing a Bible
A large Bible requires one to look further to the top of the page. This, like too small a font, creates eye strain. For younger readers, this isn't an issue. A softcover Bible keeps shifting, requiring reading curved pages. Picky personal preference, perhaps. Whiter paper, without much bleed-through, gives greater contrast and less distraction. Four Brothers’ Shipping Container Compound
Today over lunch, I sat down with four brothers living in Western Michigan, who were inspired by my brief article on shipping container communities of faith. While it seems they worship golf more than God, my article did get them thinking. Given the increasing social turmoil that they’ve noticed ever developing, for example the 63 … Continue reading Four Brothers’ Shipping Container Compound
St. Benedict Storage Container Community
A wealthy business owner purchased 200 acres north of Cedar Springs, Michigan. He had community on his mind. When he got out of town for the weekend, though he enjoyed some solitude, he wanted friends to share time with, to ride motorcycles with, to hike and fish with, but especially to worship with. He built … Continue reading St. Benedict Storage Container Community
Hell (Sheol, Hades, Gehenna)
Casual Thoughts on a Hot Topic I. The Bible is God's word. Christian theology uses Scripture as its primary text, with tradition and reason. Discussing Hell as a Christian isn't a purely speculative debate, except for doing natural theology and comparative religions. My brief comments below assume this. If one places one's reason over God's … Continue reading Hell (Sheol, Hades, Gehenna)
Catholic Clergy Sex Abuse and the Media
His truth is marching on--thank God for it! Spotlight of The Boston Globe did God's bidding in 2002, when the Church wouldn't, and now again, the press and The Pennsylvania Attorney General have shed light to Satan's work through his anti-Christ apostles. Most unfortunately, the diabolical is active well beyond the Catholic Church. Sexual abuse … Continue reading Catholic Clergy Sex Abuse and the Media
